The Breast Center of Suburban Imaging offers opportunities for breast imagers to connect with others in their field while also meeting their continuing education requirements. Two-to-three times per year, The Breast Center arranges and hosts an educational conference for mammographers and breast imagers who work at clinics throughout the northern metro.
Two dozen mammographers and breast imagers gathered at Suburban Imaging on Tuesday, March 24 for the most recent conference. Dr. Tamera Lillemoe, an experienced pathologist with Hospital Pathology Associates was the evening’s featured speaker. She has been named a top doctor in pathology by several organizations.
Dr. Lillemoe spoke to the group about breast disease from a pathologist’s perspective, including important concepts in breast cancer diagnosis and treatment.
“I assist the radiologists with biopsies performed at The Breast Center; Dr. Lillemoe explained in detail how the pathologist examines tissue samples taken from a breast biopsy and then determines a diagnosis,” said Mary, a mammographer at The Breast Center. “In the event that the tissue contains cancer cells, the pathologist’s diagnosis helps the patient’s physician develop an individualized treatment plan in order to achieve the best possible outcome for the patient. It was fascinating to learn about this process,” she said.
The Breast Center of Suburban Imaging has been organizing and hosting these conferences for more than 15 years. “I enjoy planning these events because of the fellowship, sharing of information and sense of community that takes place among the participants,” said Heidi Marthaler, clinic manager of The Breast Center.
The next conference is scheduled for fall of this year.
