October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month!

Sep 30, 2021

This October, Suburban Imaging is proud to participate in Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Did you know...

  • 1 in 8 U.S. women will develop invasive breast cancer in her lifetime.
  • In 2021, an estimated 281,550 new cases of invasive breast cancer are
expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S., along with 49,290 new
cases of non-invasive (in situ) breast cancer.
  • For women in the U.S., breast cancer death rates are higher than those for
any other cancer, with the exception of lung cancer.

  • About 85% of breast cancers occur in women who have no family history of breast cancer. These occur due to genetic mutations that happen as a result of the aging process and life in general, rather than inherited mutations.
  • 64% of breast cancer cases are diagnosed at a localized stage, for which the 5-year survival rate is 99%.

  • Early detection saves lives! Screening mammography can detect breast cancer
before it can be felt, increasing the chances it is still at a localized stage.

The American College of Radiology and Society of Breast Imaging recommends that women age 40 and older have an annual screening mammogram, continuing as long as the woman is in good health. Suburban Imaging is asking women to commit to scheduling a mammogram today.

We offer both standard 2D screening mammography and tomo (3D) screening mammography. A referral from your healthcare provider is not needed to schedule screening mammography.

Have questions about screening mammography or want to know how to schedule? Click here to learn more. Screening mammograms (2D or 3D) can be scheduled at SI-BlaineSI-Burnsville and The Breast Center of Suburban Imaging. Be sure and check with your health insurance to verify coverage.

Abbreviated Breast MRI is ideal for women with a family history of breast cancer and/or those with dense breast tissue. A referral from your healthcare provider is needed prior to scheduling. Abbreviated Breast MRI is done in conjunction with screening mammography.
