Radiologists specializing in interventional radiology perform minimally-invasive procedures using image-guidance such as CT, ultrasound or fluoroscopy (a type of low-dose x-ray).
At the hospital, interventional radiologists perform a wide range of procedures including biopsies and drainage; vascular arterial/venous interventions such as angioplasty, stenting, thrombolysis, and embolization; and vascular access such as inserting ports and catheters. They are specialists in vascular imaging and treatment and consult with patients to provide full-spectrum vascular care including diagnosis, treatment and follow-up. Additionally, they treat cancer using minimally-invasive interventional oncologic therapies such as tumor ablation and embolization.
