MRI Metal Checklist

You are being scheduled for an MRI and/or MRA imaging procedure. Because of the presence of a strong magnetic field, we need to know if you have any of the items listed below.

  • Brain, ear or heart surgery
  • Brain aneurysm clips or coils
  • Cardiac pacemaker or defibrillator
  • Dentures (held in place by magnets) 
  • Ear implants
  • History of metal fragments in the eye 
  • History of working with metal (i.e. welding, grinding, machinist)
  • Implanted drug pumps
  • Implanted electronic devices 
  • Medication patches containing metal foil
  • Neurostimulators
  • Penile prosthesis 
  • Pregnancy, known or possible
  • Shrapnel or gunshot wound
  • Allergy/sensitivity to:
  • Medicines
  • Food
  • Latex
  • Other   
  • Body piercing
  • Breast feeding
  • Breast prosthesis
  • Cancer (personal history)
  • Claustrophobia
  • Diabetic
  • Electrode (i.e. Holter monitor)    
  • Hearing aid
  • Heart valve replacement
  • History of sickle cell anemia
  • Kidney problems
  • Permanent eyeliner
  • Prosthesis (i.e. artificial limb)
  • Shunt
  • Stent
  • Tattoo
